Dior Cruise 2023 show: art, music and Spain come together in a feast for the senses

0

Drama. Dance. Art. These are the words that lingered after seeing the Dior Cruise 2023 show in Seville, Spain.

Held before the big one Plaza de España, a group of dancers dressed in red dresses began to move together at the start of the show as an orchestra playing traditional Spanish music echoed through the crowd. It was clear where Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was coming from.

For this collection, Chiuri delved into Seville’s rich history, drawing particular inspiration from visual artist Maria Angeles Vila Tortosa, who described Chiuri’s vision as a “powerful cocktail” of art, music , fashion and history.

As soon as the guests started arriving, this visual was clear. A large fountain, a grand facade, and a bold shade of red snuck into the decor, and then came the designs.

Puffy maxi dresses in unique prints, layered skirts and structured shoulders swept down the steps of the Palaza.

There was a mix of textures, from smooth suede to dramatic black lace – there was also a version of the quilted puffer. Unsurprisingly, everything was classy.

Chiuri also dove into sheer textures, specifically a draped sheer plum dress tied with a thick black sash, fishnet stockings visible underneath.

Some models wore large black hats with flat brims, a subtle ode to the Cordouan hat. Riding boots were also all the rage – it could have been a scene from 2022 or 1922. Drama was visible around every corner.
